A common question we receive is:
“I need 1,000 memory foam pillows. Please quote.”
Of course, we can give an estimated price.
But the question is: what kind of pillow are we talking about?
For memory foam pillows, there is usually no single “standard price” that works for every project.
Most B2B orders are customized in some way. Even when the pillow looks similar to an existing product, the specifications may be different.
That is why a quotation based only on quantity can sometimes be misleading.
What affects the price?
The first thing is the size and height.
A 50 × 30 cm pillow and a 60 × 40 cm pillow are not the same product. Even with a similar shape, the amount of foam can be different.
Then there is the foam itself.
Different foam types, densities, firmness and rebound characteristics can change both the product feel and the cost.
For example, a customer may want a soft pillow with slow rebound, while another customer may need a firmer pillow for a different design.
And there are also different kinds of memory foam core, such as CNC cutting memory foam, shredded memory foam, moulded memory foam, etc.
The cover is another important part.
A simple polyester cover and a more specialized knitted fabric are not the same specification. The fabric composition, weight, construction and finishing can all affect the final price.
Then we have packaging.
Will the pillow be individually packed? Will it be compressed or roll-packed? Is there a printed box, a non-woven bag or just a simple polybag?
These details can also affect the carton size and container loading.
For larger orders, packaging is not only about the cost of the bag or box. It can also affect how efficiently the products can be packed and shipped.
Custom details matter too
Private label projects often include details such as:
- Logo
- Woven or printed label
- Embroidery
- Special cover fabric
- Customized pillow shape
- Individual packaging
- Customized carton markings
Each detail may seem small.
But when several of them are combined, the final product can be quite different from a standard pillow.
This is why we normally do not treat a “standard quotation” as the final answer for a custom project.
So what is a standard quotation?
A standard quotation can still be useful at the beginning.
For example, if you are still comparing different product ideas, an estimated price based on standard specifications can help you understand the general price level.
But it should be clear that this is an estimated price based on certain specifications, not the final price for your finished product.
Once the specifications are confirmed, the quotation can be adjusted accordingly.
This is also why we may ask several questions before preparing a quotation.
It is not about making the buying process difficult.
It is about making sure we are quoting the same product.
A better way to start a custom project
You do not need to have every detail ready before contacting a supplier.
If you only have a product idea, a photo or a reference sample, that is a good starting point.
We can work through the main points step by step:
Product → Specifications → Sample → Quotation → Bulk Production
The more details are confirmed, the more meaningful the quotation becomes.
For B2B buyers, this can also make supplier comparison easier. Instead of comparing two numbers based on different specifications, you can compare the same product on the same basis.
