Why Pocket Size Matters in Weighted Blankets
Compare 5×5 cm, 7×7 cm and 10×10 cm weighted blanket pockets to understand filling movement, weight distribution and production cost.

What Does Pocket Size Mean in a Weighted Blanket?
When choosing a weighted blanket, buyers often focus on fabric, total weight and size. But there is another detail worth discussing: the size of each quilted pocket.
Pocket size refers to the size of each compartment that holds the glass beads. The quilting divides the blanket into small sections and helps keep the filling in place.
For our weighted blanket production, we offer three regular quilting sizes: 5×5 cm, 7×7 cm and 10×10 cm. Each option has its own cost and construction requirements. The right choice depends on the product you want to develop and the price your target market can accept.

Smaller Pockets: Less Room for Glass Beads to Move
With smaller pockets, the glass beads have less room to move around inside each compartment.
This helps limit local movement of the filling and supports a more controlled distribution across the blanket. When a blanket is moved, folded or used, the beads still have some room to shift within their pockets, but the movement is restricted by the smaller compartments.
For this reason, 5×5 cm quilting is worth considering when filling control is a priority.
However, smaller pockets do not automatically make every weighted blanket better. The fabric, filling amount, sewing quality and overall construction also matter. Pocket size is one part of the product design, not the only factor affecting the finished blanket.
Larger Pockets: A More Cost-Effective Option
A 10×10 cm pocket gives the glass beads more space to move within each compartment than a 5×5 cm pocket.
For some products, this can be an acceptable choice, especially when the buyer needs to keep the product cost under control. It is also our lowest-cost option among the three regular quilting sizes.
This does not mean 10×10 cm quilting is unsuitable. It means buyers need to consider what matters most for their product: a lower production cost, more restricted filling movement, or a balance between the two.
For a product aimed at a price-sensitive market, 10×10 cm may be a practical starting point. The final choice should still be checked against the required product specification and sample.

What About 7×7 cm Quilting?
The 7×7 cm option sits between 5×5 cm and 10×10 cm.
It gives buyers another choice when they do not want to use the smallest pockets but prefer something between the two options in terms of pocket size and cost.
For product developers, this can be a useful middle option to compare during sampling. Instead of deciding only from a specification sheet, you can review the actual samples and compare the construction, filling movement and quoted price before confirming the final design.
Why Does Smaller Quilting Cost More?
Smaller pockets require more quilting lines across the blanket. Compared with 10×10 cm quilting, 5×5 cm quilting generally needs more stitching, more production time and more sewing materials.
This is why the 5×5 cm option costs more, while 10×10 cm is the most economical of our three regular options. The 7×7 cm option provides an alternative between them.
When comparing quotations, it is important to compare the same blanket size, filling weight, fabric and other specifications. Otherwise, the difference in price may not come from pocket size alone.

Which Pocket Size Should You Choose?
There is no single pocket size that fits every market or product range.
- 5×5 cm: Consider this when limiting glass bead movement is a priority and the target price allows for the higher production cost.
- 7×7 cm: Consider this when you want a middle option between smaller and larger pockets.
- 10×10 cm: Consider this when cost control is a major part of your product planning.
Your decision should reflect your customers' expectations, your local market and the retail price you want to achieve. If you are unsure, comparing samples and quotations for two different pocket sizes can help you make a more informed decision.
